Troubleshooting & FAQ

The OBJECT IDs pane lists RS Object tags whose Object ID override is on and whose ID is 1 or more. An object with no RS Object tag, or with the override off, isn’t listed. Select it and use Set — it shows greyed under Selected — no RS tag or Selected — RS tag, no ID until you do. See Object IDs.

Only Redshift materials with a Material ID of 1 or more are listed. Select the material and use Set. If you get No Redshift Material ID port on: followed by its name, it isn’t a Redshift material, so it has no Material ID to set.

“Could not add an RS Object tag (is Redshift loaded?)”

Section titled ““Could not add an RS Object tag (is Redshift loaded?)””

RS ID Manager couldn’t add an RS Object tag to the objects listed. Check that Redshift is installed and loaded in this Cinema 4D — the Tags menu in the Object Manager should offer Redshift tags.

Set writes to the selection, and nothing is selected. Select objects or tags in the Object Manager, materials in the Material Manager, or rows in the panel, then click Set again.

Rows are highlighted that I didn’t click

Section titled “Rows are highlighted that I didn’t click”

The highlight is Cinema 4D’s own selection. In the OBJECT IDs pane, selecting any tag on an object highlights its rows. In the MATERIAL IDs pane, a selected object highlights its materials while Select Materials of Active Objects is on. See Selection.

They share an ID — each duplicate group gets its own colour. That’s fine if you want them in the same matte; otherwise give one a new ID. See Duplicates, colours & order.

Shift-click the other tab under the title row to show both.

The panel hides its title row when it is short, to give the lists more room. Make the panel taller and it comes back. Edit ▸ License… opens the licence window in the meantime.

Fixed in 3.0: a saved layout that restored the panel twice could leave it blank at startup. If it still happens, choose Extensions ▸ RS ID Manager to rebuild it, and tell us — see below.

The licence window keeps appearing, or the panel closed

Section titled “The licence window keeps appearing, or the panel closed”

Your trial has ended or the licence was deactivated. Enter your serial in the licence window. See Licensing & support.

  • “No Redshift render settings found.” The active render setting doesn’t use Redshift.
  • “No IDs found in scene.” Neither pane lists any IDs yet.
  • A matte is missing some IDs. The mattes use the panel’s lists. Show both panes, check the IDs are listed, then Update Puzzlematte AOVs.
  • Old mattes weren’t replaced. Update only replaces AOVs named PuzzleMatte_…. If you changed the name template, delete the old AOVs in Redshift’s AOV Manager.
  • $pass disappeared from my name template. It stands for the AOV’s own name, so it can’t be used in a name. Use it in the Output path instead. See Naming.

Yes. Setting Object IDs, renaming and deleting RS tags, creating puzzle mattes and the ID list are all undoable with Edit ▸ Undo.

IDs run from 0 to 100,000,000. 0 means “no ID”: setting it switches an object’s ID override off, and removes a material from the list.

Open a support ticket from the RS ID Manager product page — see Licensing & support. Lines starting [RS ID Manager] in Cinema 4D’s Console (Extensions ▸ Console) are worth pasting into it.
